Picnic Time Portable Folding Sports Chair

These heavy duty camping chairs fold out and provide a table on one side to hold your drinks or snacks, along with a pouch on the other side to hold important items like your phone, keys, wallet and more. The side table is big enough for a quick meal and small enough to fold up nice and tight. It’s an extra wide director’s style chair that can fit anyone, big or small.

2. ALPS Mountaineering Folding Camp Chair w/ Powder Coating Finish

ALPS Mountaineering Folding Camp Chair w/ Powder Coating Finish

These folding camping chairs are Alps Mountaineering best-selling camp chair, and for good reason. This camp chair has a taller back than many folding chairs, and it reclines just slightly to make it more comfortable. The arm rests are also padded and curved for additional comfort.

This Alps camping chair comes with a cup holder/pocket and a powder-coated frame that will last. It weighs a little more at 10.5 pounds, but it’s capacity of 425 pounds makes this one of the most heavy duty camping chairs around. This chair is not as wide as the chair above, measuring at 24″ wide, 21″ deep, and 36″ tall. Folds flat.

Complaints: Another high-rated folding camping chair, the Alps suffers from a small problem where it seems to collect water in the material  and possibly the tubing. Click here to read what other customers had to say about the Alps Mountaineering Camp Chair.

3. Tommy Bahama Backpack Cooler Chair w/ Storage Pouch & Towel Bar

Tommy Bahama Backpack Cooler Chair w/ Storage Pouch & Towel Bar

The Tommy Bahama Backpack Cooler Chair is great for camping near the water or in the woods. It has an adjustable pillow and padded straps so you can haul it around easily. Tommy Bahama even adjusts to 5 different positions, including one that lays flat if you’re looking to take a nap (but want to stay out of the dirt). It comes equipped with a storage pouch, an insulated cooler pouch, and a folding towel bar.

This folding camping chair is rated for 300 pounds with a lightweight aluminum frame so it won’t rust even if it gets wet. The molded arms also have a cup holder and pocket that hangs down. It folds down flat, making it very easy to carry with the lightweight frame and backpack straps.

Complaints: Because of this folding camping chairs ability to adjust to different positions, it can be hard to fold up sometimes. It is also quite low to the ground. There have been a couple problems with the stitching and the adjustment notches not holding, but it’s not common.

4. Picnic Time Portable Reclining Camp Chair

Picnic Time Portable Reclining Camp Chair

The Picnic Time Portable Reclining Camp Chair is the only umbrella-style folding camping chair that made the list. Unlike other camping chairs of this type, the reclining back makes it so you don’t have to sit all hunched over with bad posture. It also features 3 different positions, a padded seat, adjustable arm rests (with cup holder) and a large zippered pocket on the back (not accessible from sitting position)

It’s folding steel frame can support up to 300 pounds, like most other heavy duty camping chairs. The major advantage of this chair is that it folds up nice and small and comes with a bag to put it in and carry around, making it very portable.

Complaints: While this is a recliner, it can be difficult to do if you’re sitting in the chair. Like other folding camping chairs that fold like this, it also isn’t the best for back support or posture (though better than the standard ones). There have also been a few reports about this chair breaking at a particular hinge point made of plastic.

Coleman Camping Oversized Quad Chair w/ Cooler

Coleman Camping Oversized Quad Chair w/ Cooler

The Coleman Camping Oversized Quad Chair w/ Cooler takes most of the bad things about a quad folding chair and irons them out. It folds up really nicely and fits into the carry bag for easy traveling and storage. Plus it’s got a built-in arm rest cooler that can hold up to 4 cans! No constant trips to the cooler while sitting by the fire, or you can hold some for your friends.

This folding camp chair is big and durable, with a heavy-duty steel frame that supports up to 300 pounds.  It comes with 2 cup holders built in to the arms, plus a mesh side pouch to keep a cell phone, magazine, snacks, or other personal items.

Complaints: While this chair is one of the most rated camping chairs, with over 550 reviews and 70% 5-star reviews, the most common poor reviews of this chair had to do with it’s “quad chair” nature. Because of the way it folds, it still isn’t the most comfortable chair around. It has a tendency to push your legs together and put pressure on your thighs when sitting.

Folding Camping Chairs Buying Tips

Like I mentioned earlier, buying high quality folding camping chairs will help you relax more when camping. I’ve tried to relax in the cheaper umbrella-folding chairs and they just aren’t comfortable, my back always gets fatigue because I’m hunched over. All of the chairs above solve this problem, but if posture is a big focus don’t go with the Picnic Time chair, grab one of the flat-folding chairs instead.

These are all heavy duty camping chairs, with the minimum being rated at 250 pounds. If you’re looking for the heaviest duty chair, go with the Alps Mountaineering camping chair, it will work great for ya.

Remember too that these are all equipped with nylon fabric, so embers will burn a hole through it if they land on the chair. If you’re not sitting on them near the campfire, I suggest pulling it back to avoid burn holes.
